Hey! I got the hardbound copy of my journal yesterday!

What a boring read.

Florid, evasive and incomprehensible, verging on the bafflingly cryptic, the only thing that makes sense is the occasional picture - and footnoted links don't help in a non-internet connected print publication. Luckily it was only the collected volume of 2004 and I shall rectify that in future editions of subsequent years for myself.

I shall put it aside for my dotage when I'll find everything disagreeble and unfashionably futuristic.

I've been busy in that hilarious madcap way that is always funnier with a silent movie piano soundtrack. Otherwise I've been playing Patapon, which has to be one of the most anti-social games I've ever isolated myself in. I was truly ready to hate a rhythm action, real time strategy, god sim, role playing game, but it's suckered me in despite my two left thumbs when it comes to sticking to the beat. And I get to tell everyone to shush when they try to talk to me.

Hmmmmmmmmm, nothing like reading back five years and going, "WHY DID I KEEP POSTING VAGUE STUFF ABOUT MY LIFE THAT I NOW NO LONGER REMEMBER WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?"

EXCELLENT cover, by the by.

Intriguing concept, but does my journal contain enough actual content to make it worthwhile? I may have to peruse my journal first, otherwise I may be paying for a book of unclickable links...

I'd like to thank my thesaurus for 2004's stunning prose.

I tried to like Patapon, I really did. I love rhythm games but I just couldn't get into it. It's all about Mario Kart Wii right now. :-)

I'm waiting to get a big cash payout to go and get Mario Kart! Kel Looooves Kart racers and this should be a blast.

Patapon requires a frightening amount of intense concentration. It's a little daunting to pick up and play, but the RPG aspect of it has suckered me in.

Look at you! Holding up the entire internets in your hand!! Why doesn't the paper DO something when I press it? Stupid paper! You did take that extra step. I just downloaded a PDF of my SEEEKRIT LJ and left it at that. My regular one? Isn't worth the pixels it's already printed on. You actually WRITE and make us laugh with cleverly motted silly highjinks. Bon motted, that is! Heh.. does this mean you're going to bind up all of Soektor, too? I still have the PDF of that...

All worth keeping. Now shush and get back to gaming!

Lulu.com, but I'm also considering looking into another company Blurb.com which has a fairly flexible application you download for layout.

I just did a job with Lulu - do they have Blog to book download?? I need to check.
I am trying to use Blurb and its good but tricky and slow

I used LJBook to create a PDF of my journal and played around with it in acrobat. It's a little glitchy and the layout can sometimes suck, but it does the trick in broad strokes.
I uploaded the PDF to lulu and got a print copy. It's not too bad.

So you're VERY narcissistic after all!! You should probably know I started reading your journal from the very first day during a particularly boring class. I don't think I made it past October 2004, but yeah, I though "Geez, if he really does print it he'll have some problems with images in links..."

...I also discovered you've ALWAYS loved three-syllable words. ♥

My terrible secret is out!!
I was awfully evasive in my original journal entries, disguised behind three syllable worded vocabulary!

[startvanityproject] I understand not making it past Oct 2004, but I highly recommend 2005 - 2006, some of my most remarkable idiocy is enshrined there.

Hahahaha, you were indeed!!!

Well, I didn't go any further because my major illustration projects began and I don't have as much spare time as I did back then. I plan to continue my reading, though: I've learned loads from it, from new vocabulary to illustration problems and the meaning of "furry" in it's full extent...

*thumbs up and five seven stars*

For the full extent of awesome, grumpy and outside furry types also consider:
[info]shatterstripes, [info]eselgeist, [info]kamenkyote, [info]electricgecko and the ubiquitously famous [info]ursulav.
All of them substantially more awesome than I and worthy of a hello.

I just checked them out - I had seen a little of their work from the Illustrators community - God, they're good. If hanging out with them on the LJ is what makes it for you, then I definitely will have to see if anything rubs on; if not... then I'll just continue to stare in blank awe. ^^

Thanks for pointing them out!

I propose a night where we get the usual suspects together and do random readings from 'The Book of 2004' in the style of a beatnik poetry reading. The only change I would suggest is to fuel this endeavour we use vodka instead of coffee. Whaddya say, Daddy-O?

That sounds nightmarish. I was a churlish cretin four years ago don'tchya know?
The vodka may just leaven the pain and terror though, so, yeah!
