I remember fishing at the wharf years ago, and my brother snagged a small octopus. We tried to keep it, but the dam thing crawled out of the cooler, across the few feet of wooden wharf, and back into the water.

At the Monterey Bay Aquarium here, they had to put astroturf on the tank top of the giant octopus tank to keep it inside. Apparently, they don't like the feel of it (or just can't get a good grip, possibly both).
